The concept of the power of prayer is something in my life that has developed over time. I remember so many times as a child in church hearing prayer requests, praise reports, and modern day miracles. Fast forward many years later my prayer life held a whole new meaning when I struggled with one miscarriage after another. I truly learned what it was like to pray circles around and truly turn circumstances over to God. I fell on my face so many times in prayer. Others had been praying for me fervently, but then my older daughter said a prayer from a hospital chapel, followed by her Sunday school teacher and my daughter laying hands on me to pray.
Again I truly tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them. Matthew 18:19-20 I learned what it was like more than ever to have my family, friends, and church family circle me in prayer. After many miscarriages, taking steps toward adoption, and prayers a miracle happened and then on April 25th, 2013 my middle daughter was born. I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. 1st Samuel 1:27. God absolutely blessed us with a miracle. Miracles still happen today. Two and a half years later we had another miracle. I’ve also learned that even when prayers are not answered in the way or timing I want, God has a plan. There is power in prayer even in the moments that God’s plan is different than ours. I have been through painful things and still feel God’s loving arms wrapped around me. I can still feel God’s grace and trust that there is a plan that sometimes is unseen. Prayer isn’t just about coming to God with a laundry list, it is about a relationship. A relationship that the more I pour into, the more it flourishes, and the more my heart changes. I know sometimes the belief that miracles can happen, followed by the shock of unanswered prayers also causes people to walk away from God. God never walks away from us however. If I stay in the relationship, God continues to show up big. I’m left feeling joy and peace that can only come from God. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. James 3:17 Author: Heather Lynch
