One day recently, we found ourselves in deep conversation during an impromptu dinner break from a busy day. We all have those times that the conversation trends more toward “God sharing” and these are true blessings during a tough day. On this particular day, we were in the planning stages of what seemed to be God weaving a ministry opportunity into our lives. A more accurate description of these ministry planning days might be that God was dropping a huge well-wrapped gift right into our already crazy, hectic lives. The Holy Spirit showed up more times than we can count to guide us into no more or no less of his plan. There we sat, in awe of the idea that we might just be playing a small part in a much bigger plan. With this, as with any spiritual move forward, comes the likelihood for spiritual attack and we have had our fair share in the days following our commitment to pray and seek God to move forward with Balance Ministries. The discussion turned to recent struggles with spiritual battles that were threatening the very desire to move forward in this calling. We have all had those moments when we know God is moving but we are bound by things that come against us spiritually, physically, or emotionally and stop any forward progress. These moments can literally choke us and darken the brightest day. It was in that moment in this busy restaurant that the air was filled with what can only be described as the most invasive lint storm ever experienced. In the light shining down from the fixture that hung above the table could be seen clouds of particles, lint, fuzz, and any other possible substance imaginable that could have been airborne at that moment. To say it became annoying is an understatement. Our intense conversation came to a halt as it wasn’t clear if it was a result of the very lint-heavy napkins or some other strange affliction. Heather became annoyed to the point that in her frustration she brought to Kim’s attention the obvious invasion of something in the air. “What in the world is this?”, Heather asked loudly. In a quick moment, as minds raced, all Kim could think of was how she had felt God’s presence take over the conversation and she replied, “It’s Holy Spirit sprinkle!” As Kim said these words, she also clapped one time which made the massive lint storm rise up even more. Of course all seriousness was immediately discarded and the laughter that followed was in part due to having the tension broken. For the most part, it was due to the fact that it was actually true and we were in awe in all the hilarious nature God sometimes reveals to us. It was one of those moments that you kind of forget other people are around and we are in public. It may even be fair to say that this happens a lot. We like to laugh. There is something so healing about laughter. It’s contagious and sometimes hard to stop once it starts! We all need a little Holy Spirit Sprinkle in our lives sometimes. We know there have been so many times in our lives that we have been intensely focused on a struggle, wrestling with whatever current issue has us bound, or just spiraling with all that is coming against us. Then, in the magnificent way God has, the Holy Spirit throws down a surprise, we feel that Holy Spirit Sprinkle, and just sit back wide eyed with amazement of God’s goodness. These are moments when you can feel God’s presence, knowing God is holding you up, and there is no other explanation for the feeling that overcomes you. The peace, the covering of God’s grace and mercy is beyond evident. In that moment, we are captivated by whatever blessing or comfort He sends and our minds redirect and move out of what had us bound. We have to be watching for it though. We cannot miss those moments. We have to be willing to allow God to alter our perspective, invade our thoughts, and guide our emotions. We have to enjoy that Holy Spirit sprinkle in our lives and seek out His presence. Over the last few years, we have seen how hard and fast cancer can destroy a person’s earthly body, but in all of that we have also seen God work in amazing ways. While his plan didn’t call for ultimate healing on Earth for our loved ones, we have seen his provisions that aren’t just happenstance. We have seen and felt the Holy Spirit move mountains just to get us through the day in one piece. Just sitting still and allowing the Holy Spirit to comfort brings joy in the midst of everything that threatens happiness. Our desire is that God will fill us up with joy and peace as we continue to grow in faith and trust. We want to not just have hope but to overflow with it. We want it to spill out all over the place. We want that power of the Holy Spirit so that we are vessels for that sprinkle. As we approach the Christmas season which is filled with lots of love and gift giving our prayer is that you are filled with the Holy Spirit. That you feel God’s presence in this season. That you see God’s blessings and provisions around every corner no matter the battle you are facing. That others can see the Holy Spirit Sprinkle! And we pray that if you haven’t received the gift of the Holy Spirit there is no better time than now. A gift that could be received during this season in which we celebrate God’s of his son, Jesus Christ. Have you had that Holy Spirit Sprinkle moment? Are you continually seeking His presence, building faith through diving into His Word and quiet moments of prayer? Are you a vessel of Holy Spirit Sprinkle that overflows to affect the lives of those around you? Peter said, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
